Acrylic painting of my Granddad for my Fine Art A Level.
I would like to study Graphic Design at University, as I feel it will help me to fulfil my dream of helping advertising and producing work for a client. Studying at your university I believe will help me progress academically and practically to achieve my full potential.

At A Level my favourite subject was Graphic Design. This was simply because I am so passionate about the subject. After the last three years doing the course my whole outlook on signs has changed, symbols are enormous part of the signs. Symbols help people realise what something is without reading or having to look into the symbol. Some symbols are so well recognised, you could remove half of it and people can still see what it should be or what company it resembles.

I took it upon myself to get some work experience in the graphic’s industry and in the summer of 2010 I spent two weeks in local company Attic Design seeing how the business works. It was very helpful and I even got to work on a live project. The manager was very impressed with my skills on a computer. I am excellent on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. For the two weeks there I attended three conferences which give me an idea how the different clients pitch there ideas and what they would like from you, this will be very helpful for me in the future. The placement confirmed my decision to choose Graphic Design for my future career.

I’m applying for this Graphic Design course because I want to be successful. I’m confident in the work I do. I love to problem solve and for example, finding out what the client wants and exploring exciting ways you can approach the problems is endless, and that’s why I have chosen this course.

Letters of Desire

Design for a poster that I had created.
I was given a letter and had to think of a word beginning with that letter that related to desire.

My letter was H, the desire for hunger.

I made this by sketching out a sandwich and then scanning it into a computer. Then useing Adobe Illustrator to re-make it and colour it, finally adding text.

This is made up of three different types of media.
Collage prints, screen prints and a computer.

The Waterboys/Jimi Hendrix

This is a remake of The Waterboys 'Dream Harder'.
I've singled out the one song, 'The Return of Jimi Hendrix'.

The peice is made up of five different paintings and two screen prints, that i have scanned into the computer and placed together re-create the album cover.

Graphic Representation

This image represents me as a graphic designer.
Not that I look like the male in the picture, but that Mr. Muscle is a cleaning product, and that's how I like my graphic design. Me and this product are very similar, we both love it clean.
Because he's called Mr. Muscle, it shows hes 'up-front' and not scared what to say what he thinks. This is also why we are so alike.
This is just a picture of a televison in a road, that has been edited with the Nam June Paik logo.
This images meaning is that even though he is old and gone, his work is still on-going.
This is my second NamJune Paik logo.
It's a development from the previous logo, still using the same text but its been rotated 90 degrees right.
But i'm still using the television idea.

Name June Paik

This is my Nam June Paik logo.
The letters are made up of squares to represent the pixels in a television. And as you may know, Paik used televisions in most of his work.
The colours behind the main letters symbolise the 'future' of television, 3D TV.

Now rotate your head 90 degrees clockwise to the right and look at the image again.
